Tarrytown
Austin's most graceful established neighborhood, steps from Lake Austin.
What I actually think about Tarrytown.
Tarrytown has been a desirable address since Austin was a fraction of its current size, and that trajectory hasn't stopped. The neighborhood sits between downtown and the lake in a way that gives residents both urban access and a quieter residential feel.
The streets are lined with mature trees that create a canopy effect rare in Texas cities. Mozart's Coffee on Lake Austin is a five-minute walk. Deep Eddy Pool is nearby. Casis Elementary draws families who want an established public school in a walkable neighborhood.
The housing runs the full spectrum: original ranch homes on wooded lots, substantial renovations that preserve the neighborhood's character, and new construction that takes full advantage of the location. Buyers here tend to be specific about what they want, and Tarrytown usually has it.
